What about the Tarot Pips?

In a tarot deck, the 78 cards are divided into 3 groups:

  • The Major Arcana are the 22 keys in the tarot. They are the primary archetypes we work with in the Tarot Spirit series of courses. The keys represent the planets and zodiac signs.
  • The 16 court cards are grouped in four suits -- similar to today's playing cards, but more esoterically related to the four elements. In each suit we have four court players, often named king, queen, jack (prince) and page (princess). We work with the court cards to represent shadow and persona in Otherworld psychodrama during the course Tarot Spirits: Stars and Shadow.
  • The 40 pips or number cards are also divided into four suits. The 10 cards in each suit are related to the 10 spheres in the Qabalah tree of life or the 10 fingers we have as humans. They can also be related to the decans (10 degree divisions) in astrology.

So, the pips or numbered cards can be worked with in an experimental way. The following approaches discuss integrating astrological elements with the pip tarot cards.

Experimental Journey Techniques to Try

Direct Pip Message

Scan the pip (or numbered) card and journey with your Tarot Guide to the bridge. See the scene of the tarot pip card on the bridge and receive a message from the pip related to your question or spread. Similar to an "A" Pathwork.

A related approach is to just close your eyes during a reading, and rattle briefly, allowing the message from the card to come through to you.

Decan Lord Message

Scan both the pip card and its decan lord card. Journey with your Tarot Guide to the bridge and across the bridge to the home of the decan lord. See the scene of the tarot pip card there and receive a message from the decan lord related to your question or spread.

For the ace decan lords, use Venus for ace of disks, Sun for ace of wands, Mars for ace of cups, and Saturn for ace of swords.

Planet Exploration

For each planet in your chart, scan three cards: the Tarot Spirit keys for the planet and the decan lord planet card for the decan the planet is in; also the pip card for that decan.

Journey with your Tarot Guide across the bridge to the home of the decan lord. See the scenes for all three cards there. Receive a message from all three cards. Invite the decan lord to provide support to the planet being explored.
