Thoughts on contributing in the name of Sam Rayor:
In their final happy years in Olympia, Sam and Melly Melville alternated going to Church and Synagogue every other week, and those congregations honored them. Please consider donating to them in Sam's name (no pressure here):
Temple Beth Hatfiloh
of Olympia Washington
Unity Church
of Olympia Washington
What do we have here? Dad's Navy honor guard flag, our Mom's mini Siddur (daily prayer book), our Mom's mourning pin, Dad's mourning pin, and the cut corner and Tzitzit (fringe) from a Tallit (prayer shawl) Sam is buried with. The corner is cut off to signify that Sam doesn't have to pray any more, and as such is on spiritual easy street.
These are some of the symbols of lives lived, and lives died. The circle of life is to be honored, not feared. Sam is resting easy next to our Mother, in accordance to tradition, as it should be. And life is messy in a lot of ways in between, but may good burials be a blessing and a remembering of only the positive for all time. (Disclaimer- These are Gary's words, I didn't do a committee with my sisters on them, but you can probably tell that).
